Beetle larvae that tunnel through furniture and timber, leaving fine powdery dust behind.
Lyctus / Anobium spp.
Wood borer damage is caused by beetle larvae that tunnel inside timber and furniture, often for months, before emerging as adults.
Because the larvae feed unseen inside the wood, the first visible sign is usually the powdery dust or exit holes left behind.
Adult beetles are small, 2–7 mm, brown to reddish-brown, and rarely seen
Larvae are cream-coloured grubs that live and feed inside timber
Round exit holes, 1–2 mm wide, dot infested wood surfaces
Fine, powder-like frass (wood dust) collects below exit holes
Wooden furniture, cabinets, and picture frames
Door and window frames, especially untreated timber
Wooden flooring, beams, and staircases
Stored timber, plywood, and cane furniture
Not a direct health hazard, but a significant threat to furniture and timber
Structural wooden fittings can weaken and fail under load over time
Repeated infestations reduce the resale value of furniture and fixtures
Untreated infestations can spread from one wooden item to another
Small, round exit holes on wooden surfaces
Fine, powdery dust (frass) collecting beneath furniture or frames
A hollow sound when tapping on affected wood
Crumbling or weakened timber edges and corners
Our wood borer control team can inspect, confirm, and clear the problem — usually with a same-day appointment across Bangalore.
